Oppo, What does this button do?

You don’t see the RCMP downtown much, it isn’t their jurisdiction but I work in a very high security building (US consulate building) so they are here often. But something on the Suburban caught my eye.

This suburban has a green button in the Chevy bowtie, I assume to open the hatch, but that doesn’t make any sense since you could just open it conventionally.

Can Oppo explain the function of this button? If I remember correctly Crown Vic Interceptors have a similar button in the centre of the dash to pop the trunk.

Hard to say, here in the U.S. the police and the feds rarely use Chevy Surburbans for police use, it’s often Tahoes and Explorer PIU’s. So my guess is that this is probably a modification that’s specific to the RCMP.

It is probably a trunk release button, or a panic button (unlikely). I’m not familiar with Chevy designs, but if the latch to open the back is under the handle, then yeah the button probably serves a different purpose, or could even be a security feature to prevent accidentally opening it.

This is all conjecture, however. Unless you can contact an RCMP officer to query him about it, this remains an open question.
